Ranabaali, directed by Rahul Sankrityan, presents an interesting story from history on the big screen. Vijay Deverakonda delivers a strong performance as a local leader who fights against British officer Sir Theodore Hector and the suffering of ordinary people. Rashmika Mandanna impresses as Jayamma, and the chemistry between Vijay and Rashmika is one of the film’s main highlights. Arnold Vosloo’s villainous role, detailed direction, cinematography, and production quality add strength to the movie. The connection between Ranabaali and the mythological character Bhadra Mallanna is another interesting part of the story. The film beautifully shows the atmosphere of the 1850s and features impressive action scenes. However, some scenes may remind viewers of earlier historical films like Sye Raa. The second half moves slowly in places, and the background music could have matched the local feel better. Overall, Ranabaali is an emotional period drama and a notable attempt in Vijay Deverakonda’s career.
