In Tanzania alone, Prime Minister Kassim Majaliwa disclosed that the death toll has risen to 155 as a result of floods caused by the incessant rains. The catastrophic impact extends beyond loss of life, with severe damage inflicted on infrastructure such as roads, bridges, railways, and crops. Landslides further exacerbate the perilous situation, exacerbating the challenges faced by rescue and relief efforts.
The scale of the disaster is staggering, with over 236 individuals reported injured and more than 51,000 homes destroyed. Approximately two lakh people have been affected by the floods, necessitating urgent intervention from emergency services to evacuate and assist those stranded in inundated areas. Prime Minister Kasim emphasized the ongoing nature of the crisis, warning of continued rainfall well into May and urging residents to remain vigilant and seek safety in unaffected regions.
