KTR Slams Congress Govt for Prioritizing Beauty Pageants Over Farmer Suicides
KTR criticizes Congress government for spending ₹55 crore on Miss World pageant
Questions the event's relevance amid rising farmer suicides
Formula E race cancellation led to ₹46 crore loss, claims BRS leader
BRS working president KT Rama Rao (KTR) has slammed the Telangana Congress government for prioritizing beauty pageants over critical issues like farmer suicides. Speaking in the Assembly, KTR criticized the state for allocating ₹55 crore to host the Miss World event while farmers continue to struggle with debt and water shortages.
“When the state is reeling under distress, with farmers taking their lives, the government is busy organizing beauty contests. These events have no relevance or necessity,” KTR stated.
He also accused the government of making an “unwise decision” by scrapping the Formula E race without cabinet approval, leading to a ₹46 crore loss. KTR highlighted that the event had attracted significant investment to Telangana’s electronics sector, with companies like Tesla showing interest.
Meanwhile, State Tourism Minister Jupally Krishna Rao defended the Miss World event, stating it would boost Telangana’s global recognition and tourism potential. He announced plans for an international convention center in Hyderabad and a Hyderabad Carnival to showcase Telangana’s culture.
