TPN, Andhra Pradesh: There is growing concern among pensioners in Andhra Pradesh as May 1 approaches, marked as a critical date for pension distribution. Recent events have fueled apprehensions of a potential repeat of the chaos witnessed last month following the Election Commission’s directives regarding social pension distribution.
The Election Commission had instructed authorities to explore alternatives for home-based pension distribution due to a lack of volunteers. However, the government failed to make adequate arrangements, leading to significant challenges during last month’s pension distribution. Pensioners encountered hardships exacerbated by officials supporting the YSRCP’s narrative, suggesting opposition interference in pension distribution.
Despite past hurdles, authorities have issued orders for home-based pension distribution on May 1. However, with the 26th day approaching and no tangible progress evident, tensions are rising among pensioners regarding the timely distribution of pensions.
Political parties are also urging the Election Commission to intervene once again and ensure prompt pension distribution at home. Last month, senior citizens faced hardships being directed to collect pensions at secretariats, with many unable to navigate the hot summer conditions and enduring prolonged wait times. Additionally, YSRCP supporters utilized the situation for campaigning, further complicating the process.
While expectations were for improved communication and preparedness this time, the lack of updates has left pensioners anxious. The looming uncertainty has added to the concerns of pensioners, creating a tense atmosphere as May 1 approaches.
