Traders and business associations have announced that they will observe October 2 as “No UPI Day” across the country to protest against the proposed Merchant Discount Rate (MDR) on UPI payments. The associations said they will not accept digital payments from customers on that day. As part of the protest, UPI scanners, QR codes and sound boxes at shops and business establishments will reportedly be covered with black cloth. Ravindra, president of the MH Chamber of Commerce, Industry and Agriculture, said the decision was taken after discussions with various traders and business associations across the country. The associations are opposing the introduction of MDR on UPI transactions, citing concerns about its impact on traders and businesses. Customers visiting participating establishments on October 2 may therefore need to use cash or other payment methods. The associations are expected to share further details about the protest before October 2.
