Snapchat has announced a strategic partnership with Google Cloud to integrate its AI model, Gemini, into My AI, enhancing the platform’s capabilities significantly. This collaboration, revealed on Tuesday, allows Snapchat to incorporate advanced computer vision and improved processing for text, audio, image, video, and code.
While the announcement is new, the integration of Gemini has been in effect since earlier this year. Google Cloud emphasized that My AI is now one of the largest consumer chatbots available, utilizing Gemini models from Vertex AI. This upgrade means users can interact with the AI in more dynamic ways—sending images or audio files and asking for analyses or translations.
For instance, users can submit photos of snacks to find the healthiest option or even translate street signs while traveling abroad. Currently, all Snapchat users can access My AI, but Plus subscribers enjoy additional features like image generation and AI-driven edits.
Since the integration of Gemini, Snapchat has reported a 2.5X increase in engagement in the U.S. Previously, My AI was powered by OpenAI’s GPT models. At the recent Gemini at Work digital event, Google Cloud also showcased other clients utilizing its AI, including Volkswagen US and Warner Bros. Discovery. This partnership marks a significant step in enhancing user interaction and engagement on the platform.
