Singapore Hotel Has Been Named As World’s New Best Skyscraper

Singapore’s Pan Pacific Orchard hotel has been awarded the title of the world’s best new skyscraper by The Council on Tall Buildings and Urban Habitat (CTBUH). This remarkable 23-storey, 140-metre-tall hotel, situated in the heart of Singapore’s renowned shopping district, opened its doors in June 2023 and has rapidly gained international acclaim.

Designed by Woha Architects, the Pan Pacific Orchard also clinched three additional prestigious awards, including “Best Tall Building” in the 100m-199m category. The CTBUH announced these honors during its recent conference held from September 23-27 in London and Paris.

CTBUH CEO Javier Quintana de Una praised the hotel for exemplifying “the best of responsible vertical urbanism today,” highlighting the importance of sustainable urban design that maximizes land use while incorporating greenery.

The hotel is celebrated for its eco-friendly design, featuring solar panels, rainwater harvesting for irrigation, and an on-site biodigester for managing food waste. Its lush greenery reflects Singapore’s commitment to sustainable development, achieving a green plot ratio of over 300 percent—meaning it boasts more than three times the landscaped area of its footprint. four unique environments: the Forest Terrace, Beach Terrace, Garden Terrace, and Cloud Terrace. Each zone offers distinct experiences, from a high-ceiling lobby adorned with towering trees to a sandy beachfront and winding pools. The Cloud Terrace includes a pillarless ballroom, one of the highest in Singapore, perfect for hosting exclusive events.

This recognition bolsters Woha Architects’ reputation, following previous accolades for projects such as Kampung Admiralty and Oasia Hotel Downtown. The Pan Pacific Orchard also received Singapore’s Green Mark Platinum award, the nation’s highest environmental certification, in 2020.

At the same CTBUH event, other notable Asian skyscrapers were recognized, including Malaysia’s Petronas Towers, which won the Global Icon award, and China’s Greenland Hangzhou Century Centre, named Asia’s best tall building.
