The latest ICC Test Rankings have been released, showcasing notable shifts among prominent players. Indian wicketkeeper Rishabh Pant has made a significant leap into the top 10, securing the 6th position, while former captain Virat Kohli has slipped to 12th after a disappointing performance against Bangladesh.
Leading the rankings is England’s Joe Root, who tops the list with 899 points. New Zealand’s Kane Williamson and Daryl Mitchell follow in 2nd and 3rd place, respectively, while Australia’s Steven Smith and India’s young talent Yashaswi Jaiswal hold the 4th and 5th positions.
Rishabh Pant’s rise in the rankings can be attributed to his impressive performance in the first Test against Bangladesh, where he scored 39 runs in the first innings and made a century in the second. Meanwhile, Kohli’s recent struggles have resulted in a drop of five places, while captain Rohit Sharma has fallen from 5th to 10th.
Shubman Gill remains a strong contender, currently ranked 14th. Both Sharma and Kohli have the opportunity to improve their standings in the upcoming second Test against Bangladesh, set to take place on September 27 in Kanpur.
In the bowling rankings, India’s Ravichandran Ashwin retains the top spot, followed closely by Jasprit Bumrah in 2nd. Young Sri Lankan player has climbed to 8th place, while Australian bowlers Josh Hazlewood and Pat Cummins, along with South Africa’s Kagiso Rabada, fill the next positions. India’s Ravindra Jadeja is ranked 6th, followed by Nathan Lyon in 7th.
As the Test series progresses, players will be eager to make their mark and improve their rankings in the competitive landscape of international cricket.
