TPN, Hyderabad: A survey is being conducted in the Musi River catchment areas amid heavy police presence, creating high tension among residents. A total of 25 special teams are carrying out the survey across three districts: 16 teams in Hyderabad district, 4 in Rangareddy district, and 5 in Medchal district. The teams, led by revenue officials, are inspecting structures located in the riverbed and buffer zones of the Musi River.
The survey, supervised by Himayatnagar Tehsildar Sandhyarani, covered areas including Chadarghat, Moosanagar, Shankarnagar, and Ibrahim Bagh in Golconda. In Langerhouse Defense Colony, officials marked structures within the riverbed area. The government has identified over 13,000 encroachments and is collecting information to rehabilitate deserving residents. As part of the Musi River beautification project, around 40,000 houses in the vicinity may face demolition. Residents, however, are resisting the efforts, expressing their determination to stay in their homes. They argue that they have invested their life savings into building their houses and do not want to be relocated to double-bedroom homes, which could take months to provide. Many of these residents are daily wage laborers, and they are concerned about their livelihoods if they are displaced. Some have even criticized Chief Minister Revanth Reddy, warning that his actions may lead to widespread discontent.
