Gautam Gambhir has kicked off his tenure as head coach of the Indian cricket team with a resounding success, leading India to its first Test victory under his guidance against Bangladesh. The match, held in Chennai, saw India triumph by 280 runs, marking a brilliant start for Gambhir in the Test format.
In response to the victory, Gambhir took to social media to express his appreciation for the players, posting, “Great start! Well played boys!” along with a photo featuring captain Rohit Sharma, star batsman Virat Kohli, legendary spinner Ravichandran Ashwin, and other team members celebrating on the field.
Gambhir’s coaching journey began during the Sri Lanka tour in July, where India played a series of T20 and ODI matches. While the team secured a win in the T20 series, they faced an unexpected defeat in the ODI series. However, the momentum shifted in the Test match against Bangladesh, where Ashwin’s outstanding performance—taking six wickets—played a pivotal role in bowling out the opposition for just 234 runs after they faced a daunting target of 515 runs.
This victory not only boosts team morale but also sets a positive tone for Gambhir’s coaching career as he aims to lead India to further successes in international cricket.
