West Indies star all-rounder Dwayne Bravo has recently announced his retirement from all formats of cricket. Just hours after his retirement announcement, he was appointed as the mentor for the Indian Premier League (IPL) franchise Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR).
Bravo will take on the mentor role starting from the 2025 season, succeeding Gautam Gambhir, who has stepped down to take up the position of head coach for Team India. This transition comes after Gambhir’s recent appointment, leaving the mentor role vacant.
KKR’s CEO, Venky Mysore, met with Bravo during the Caribbean Premier League (CPL) and finalized the agreement. Mysore expressed excitement about Bravo joining the team, stating, “Dwayne Bravo’s experience and deep understanding of the game will be invaluable. His involvement will undoubtedly benefit our team and players.”
Bravo himself expressed his enthusiasm for the new role. “Having played for the Trinbago Knight Riders in the CPL for the last 10 years, and competing against KKR in various T20 leagues, I hold a great respect for how the team manages its players. I believe KKR is the perfect platform to train the next generation of players.”
Having played for Chennai Super Kings from 2011 to 2022, Bravo served as the bowling coach for the team in 2023, contributing to their title win last year. Additionally, he worked as a bowling coach for Afghanistan during this year’s T20 World Cup.
Notably, Bravo ranks third in IPL history for the most wickets taken, with over 500 wickets in the T20 format, making him one of the top performers in the game.
