Dhaka, Oct 24: Bangladesh has issued a warning regarding the severe cyclonic storm Dana, which is approaching its coastlines. According to a special bulletin from the Bangladesh Meteorological Department, the cyclone is currently located about 595 km southwest of Chattogram seaport and approximately 242 km southeast of Dhaka.
The bulletin noted that the maximum sustained wind speed near the storm center has increased from 90 km/h to 110 km/h, with gusts and squalls expected. A cautionary signal number 3 has been raised for all maritime ports.
Having intensified into a super cyclonic storm over the Bay of Bengal, Dana is anticipated to cross the Odisha coast in India before moving towards West Bengal and gradually heading towards Bangladesh’s southern Khulna region.
In its wake, squally weather is affecting the northern bay, offshore islands, and coastal areas of Bangladesh, prompting authorities to issue advisories. All fishing boats and trawlers in the north bay are advised to stay close to shore and avoid venturing into the deep sea.
Loudspeaker announcements are being made in coastal districts urging residents to evacuate their homes and seek shelter. In response to the impending storm, the Bangladesh government has canceled weekends and holidays for public servants in coastal areas to ensure readiness and safety measures are effectively implemented.
