No one seems to fully understand Pawan Kalyan’s thoughts and strategies. Even political strategists are struggling to predict his next move. Those who dislike him criticize him, while his supporters argue that whatever he does is ultimately for the greater good. There are even comments suggesting that senior leaders like Chandrababu Naidu are finding it difficult to deal with Pawan. By using the prevailing political situation to strengthen his position, Pawan is steadily building his image in Andhra Pradesh in a way that few other leaders have managed.

It is surprising to see how dramatically Pawan has transformed. The man who once struggled to figure out what to do and faced electoral defeat now operates with a confidence that makes people wonder whether the Pawan of today is the same person they knew earlier. There was a time when it was difficult even to identify potential candidates for the Jana Sena Party. Today, the party has managed to attract candidates and build a cadre base around them. That transformation is remarkable in itself.

More importantly, within Jana Sena, the earlier perception that Pawan had surrendered to the TDP and become subservient to it has gradually shifted. Today, some party supporters claim that Pawan has forced the TDP to bend to his demands. Many people still disagree with his approach, but Pawan appears to be following a different political philosophy: do what is possible under the circumstances, compromise when necessary, remain silent when it is not worth arguing, and strike aggressively when the opportunity arises. With these different approaches, Pawan Kalyan continues to conduct his politics in ways that few can easily predict.

Until recently, there were comments suggesting that Pawan had become politically silent. Jana Sena circles argue that in the past, he aggressively took on the role of an opposition leader by portraying Jagan as the villain. Now that the political situation has changed, they believe he is simply focusing on his work rather than constantly engaging in confrontation.

His supporters point to his performance in the ministerial portfolios assigned to him, his efforts to build a capable team, and his attempts to reduce corruption within the departments under his supervision. They see these initiatives as evidence of his administrative approach. While continuing this work, Pawan has now brought out his political side as local body elections approach.

According to current political discussions, Pawan appears to have introduced certain controls over Nadendla Manohar’s role in party affairs. Pawan, who once declared that he would not tolerate even the slightest criticism of Manohar, is now reportedly keeping him away from certain organizational responsibilities after examining the criticisms raised in the past. Manohar is said to be primarily handling government affairs and coordination within the coalition, while appointments to party posts and committees are reportedly being managed through Jana Sena General Secretary Talluri Ram.

This shift appears to have reassured several dissatisfied leaders and cadre members. They have reportedly started meeting Talluri Ram regularly. As a result, some ground-level realities are now reaching Pawan through this channel.

The strategy seems to be to protect the party publicly, avoiding damage to its image and preventing the feelings of leaders from being hurt, while paying attention internally to the concerns of party workers. This reflects Pawan’s increasingly strategic approach. What is more surprising to some leaders is that he appears to have begun addressing organizational weaknesses despite earlier criticism that the party lacked proper structure and that he did not know how to run an organization.

When critics such as Dasari Ramu attack him verbally, accusing him of acting as a TDP puppet or questioning why Babu should remain Chief Minister for fifteen years, Pawan appears to respond as though he is unperturbed. Yet his subsequent actions seem designed to demonstrate that such allegations are misplaced.

He has also taken a firmer position on alliances for the local body elections. By sending signals that Jana Sena could contest independently if necessary, he appears to have put pressure on the TDP. His reminder that Jana Sena was the party that came out in support of the TDP when Chandrababu Naidu was arrested for the first time was also strategically significant. Through that statement, Pawan emphasized that the TDP, too, needs Jana Sena.

In local body seat-sharing negotiations, if one party demands eight seats and receives four, or asks for six and gets three, such compromises are not unusual. Nevertheless, by applying pressure and securing a somewhat larger share, Pawan appears to have achieved at least part of his objective.

This has reportedly begun creating dissatisfaction among TDP cadre members. The anger that was once largely visible among Jana Sena workers has now, to some extent, shifted towards the TDP. Meanwhile, Jagan is making serious efforts to regain political ground. With the YSRCP still seen as a potential threat, Chandrababu may find it difficult to reject Pawan’s demands entirely. This could explain why the TDP is compelled to accommodate Jana Sena’s demands to some extent.

Pawan is also demonstrating his own style in bringing new leaders into the party. The possibility of Vangaveeti Radha joining Jana Sena after being associated with the TDP has reportedly caused dissatisfaction among some Jana Sena leaders. However, Pawan’s willingness to bring him into the fold, despite having kept his distance earlier, is being attributed to social and caste equations.

The strategy, according to political observers, is to prevent divisions among the Kapu community and encourage more members of the community to look towards Jana Sena rather than other political parties. Pawan’s public assertion that he does not concern himself with caste can be seen as part of his political tact in navigating these complicated social equations.

Pawan was heavily criticized for accepting just 21 seats in the earlier alliance arrangement. However, at the Tadepalligudem public meeting, his emotional speech appears to have won over many of those who had questioned his decision. The criticism that he had surrendered to the TDP has also weakened, at least among some sections, following his approach to the local body election negotiations.

Within the TDP, there appears to be a growing realization that having Pawan Kalyan alongside the party could eventually become a political challenge. At the same time, confidence is growing within Jana Sena that the party can continue to expand and grow on its own if necessary.

Overall, the political developments unfolding around Pawan Kalyan are surprising Jana Sena cadre members, his supporters, his political opponents, and even his allies. Many appear to have reached a common conclusion: Pawan Kalyan should not be underestimated.

By continually adjusting his approach to suit the circumstances, Pawan Kalyan is increasingly presenting himself as a political puzzle—one whose next move is difficult to predict and whose strategy is not always easy to decipher.
