Water-sharing relations between Andhra Pradesh and Tamil Nadu, which have been a subject of discussion for decades, are once again set to take centre stage at high-level talks. As part of this special visit, Tamil Nadu Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay is scheduled to visit Vijayawada today. This will be his first visit to Andhra Pradesh in his capacity as Tamil Nadu Chief Minister, generating considerable interest in political circles in both states.
Vijay is expected to hold detailed discussions with Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu on the allocation of Krishna river water to Tamil Nadu through the Telugu Ganga project to meet Chennai’s drinking water needs. They are also expected to discuss technical issues currently affecting water supply.
In addition, the two leaders are likely to exchange views on linking the Godavari, Krishna and Cauvery rivers, as well as the construction of new reservoirs proposed by the Andhra Pradesh government. Andhra Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister Pawan Kalyan may also join the meeting.
According to the schedule, Chief Minister Vijay is expected to arrive in Vijayawada at 3:30 PM and proceed directly to the residence of Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu. After their discussions, the two leaders are expected to visit Indrakeeladri Hill, where they will offer prayers and perform special rituals at the Kanaka Durga Temple.
Following the temple visit, Vijay and Chandrababu Naidu will participate in the Vijayawada Utsav 2.0 celebrations. At Punnami Ghat, they are expected to watch various cultural performances, folk dances and live music events.
After completing his engagements, Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Vijay is scheduled to return to Chennai in the evening.
