BRS MLA and Deputy Floor Leader Harish Rao criticised the Telangana government over the handling of drought conditions, power shortages and farmers’ problems. Speaking at a press conference at Telangana Bhavan, he alleged that the government had failed to prepare for the possible impact of El Niño despite warnings from scientists and government agencies.
Harish Rao questioned repeated changes to the Chief Minister’s proposed video conference with farmers and demanded clarity on the government’s action plan. He alleged that inadequate coal stocks, power cuts and the failure to operate irrigation project motors were affecting standing crops.
He also raised concerns over the Singur project, farmer insurance payments and cases against farmers seeking water for their fields. He questioned the alleged priority given to liquor companies over agricultural and drinking water needs.
Harish Rao demanded the release of pending farmer scheme funds, reliable electricity and irrigation, alternative employment for agricultural workers, and a comprehensive plan to address water shortages. These were allegations made by the BRS leader.
